Laboratory for Engineering in Neurooncologic Surgery
A collaborative of surgeons, engineers, scientists, innovators and trainees with a common shared vision to improve the lives of brain tumor patients by creating transformative diagnostic and therapeutic neurotechnologies
============================================================================================================
The goal of the LENS collaborative is to decrease the burden of disease in brain tumor patients by developing transformative neurotechnologies that tackle major challenges in their diagnosis and treatment.
============================================================================================================
We at the
LENS
collaborative advance our goal through the close synergistic work between
neurosurgeons
specializing in management, diagnosis, and treatment of brain tumors;
biomedical engineers specializing in advanced optical, computational, and imaging technologies for clinical translation;
scientists
specializing in developing novel molecular and biological models and assays for validation and deployment of these technologies;
innovators
specializing in advancing these technologies from bench to bedside via academic and industrial partnerships; and
trainees
specializing in mastering these skills to champion future innovations.
We are advancing the surgical care of brain tumor patients by advancing our understanding of fundamental brain functions to achieve the best oncologic and functional outcomes - what Prof. Duffau calls: the ONCO-FUNCTIONAL BALANCE
We use the latest technologies such as:
*awake brain surgery for cognitive and motor mapping of the brain with direct electrical stimulation
*fluorescence guided surgery
*intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
*intraoperative, navigated ultrasound
*intraoperative image guidance (neuronavigation)
*intraoperative neuromonitoring for cortical and subcortical motor mapping
