BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Michelle Felicella is an Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, with a broad background in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with specific training and expertise in all fields of Neuropathology as well as Autopsy and Surgical pathology. She is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Neuropathology and has over ten years’ experience in diagnostic neuropathology and a special interest in brain tumors and biobanking.
Her prior training and work experience at two of the busiest brain tumor centers in the country – University of California San Francisco and Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) – have given her a particular skillset which is well-suited to this project.
She is currently the Director of the Institutional Biorepository, which includes a general biospecimen repository as well as a repository for archived clinical specimens and for severe emerging infectious diseases. She has been involved with several brain tumor banks in prior positions (BNI, Henry Ford Neuroscience Institute). Her experience in neuropathology and biobanking has given her ample experience with frozen and fixed samples in clinical and research settings.
She is a key investigator of the LENS collaborative providing key expertise in neuropathological analysis of brain tumors specimens, providing a gold standard data to enable validation of novel imaging technologies.
